THE CASE FOR CASEMENTS
The architect’s choice!
Look Around. Notice in sliding windows how the glass in the sliding sash sits in a different plane, closer to the interior than the stationary glass? And see how the screen shades part of the window? When opened, a sliding sash divides the view even more, adding to the imbalanced appearance. Sliders often fall short of enhancing the curb appeal of some home designs.
Casements, on the other hand, balance beautifully with each other and with large picture windows. Casement screens mount on the inside and there are no dividing rails to block your view when they’re opened. Casement exteriors look clean.
Architects specify casements more often than sliders in custom building and remodeling. They prefer the balanced design of casements and they know casements create a more elegant, high value appearance.
A tighter seal, better protection from the weather… Architects also choose casements for performance. In sliding windows, the weather stripping merely fills the gap between the sash and frame. Casements have two weather-strip barriers – an exterior rain barrier and an interior compression strip that forms a tight seal just like a car door.
Better ventilation and accessibility… Casements reach out – just a little or a lot – to scoop in fresh air. Sliding windows can’t do that. And for convenience, the casement operator handle and lock are down low for easier access when opening, closing and locking.
Easy cleaning… Removing the sash from a slider for cleaning can be awkward and difficult. And leaning out to clean the stationary glass from inside the house can be just as difficult, if not downright dangerous. But cleaning a casement is safe and easy: just open the window all the way and reach out. No sash to remove, no need to reach out more than arm’s length and no tracks to clean.

CONSIDERING NEW WINDOWS?
Research shows replacing your windows is a smart move. Your home will show the difference inside and out. It is also a great investment that will be recouped when you sell your home.
